Oscar Romero offers Italian from Year 1 to Year 6. Our Language Program encompasses conversational language as well as learning about culture, customs, history and geography. The acquisition of an additional language and associated intercultural skills is critical to the development of children, both intellectually and emotionally. Languages prepare our students to be responsible and engaged members of our community, and to look outward as active and informed citizens of the world.
Health and Physical Education
Physical Education at Oscar Romero is an important component of the school’s curriculum, and being active is emphasised by all staff. Our Health and Physical Education program focuses on tthe student’s own and others’ health, safety, wellbeing and physical activity participation. We offer the children the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities that are contemporary, relevant, challenging, enjoyable and promote confidence, co-operation and sportsmanship. Each child from foundation to through to Year Six particpates in weekly Physical Education lessons. In addition, students are provided will opportunities to participate in various events including Cross Country Carnivals and Athletics Day.
The Performing Arts program at Oscar Romero provides students with the opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and processes in the areas of Music, Drama and Dance from Foundation to Year Six. The program is designed to maximise opportunities for students to become innovative thinkers and to have experiences as both audience members and artists. Through Performing Arts we emphasize creativity, imagination and self-confidence.
The Visual Arts program at Oscar Romero nurtures and promotes inventiveness and creativity in a fun, challenging and stimulating learning environment. Students are engaged in stimulating activities where they can explore with guidance, a wide range of media, materials and equipment whislt developing a range of skills, techniques and processes, including creative problem solving, artistic perception and expressin and personal expression and communication.
EXTRA CURRICULAR PROGRAMS
Students at Oscar Romero are offered an opportunity to undertake extra-curricular instrumental music lessons. Professional musicians from Experience Music provide individual or small group music tuition in keyboard, guitar and singing. Lessons are thirty minutes in duration and enrolment forms are available from the school’s office. At the end of the school year, an Instrumental Music Concert is performed by students participating in the program to showcase their talents and learning.
Students from Years 2 to Year Six have the opportunity to be part of the school choir. The choir meets weekly usually during one of the breaks and participates in school and community events including the sacramental celebrations.
From time to time students in Years 3 to Year 6 will have the opportunity to participate in extra sporting activities to increase their fitness or prepare for upcoming special events including Sporting Tournaments, Athletic and Cross Country Carnivals. These sessions will be held during a break or after school.
